IDLES DANNY NEDELKO

We were lucky enough to catch Idles' set at Primavera Sound over the weekend and what a truly incredible band they are. The Bristol punks are showing no signs of slowing down having just announced the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed 2017 debut Brutalism with yet another hard-hitting socially-aware banger. Named after Heavy Lungs front man and close friend of the band, 'Danny Nedelko' cuts straight to the chase with its politically-charged opening line, "My blood brother's an Immigrant, a beautiful immigrant." In usual Idles fashion, thunderous drums and wailing guitars thrash furiously beneath vocalist Joe Talbot's biting roar, but there's a vaguely lighter feel from their previous works as he explains, "This album is an attempt to be vulnerable to our audience and to encourage vulnerability; a brave naked smile in this shitty new world." The accompanying clip stars Nedelko himself, seeking out fellow Bristolian immigrants to pose with in an attempt to claim back the 'ok sign', which has recently been adopted by some white supremacists as a symbol of hate. Joy as an Act of Resistance will arrive on the 31st of August via Partisan. -Holly Mullineaux
